The Lady in the Lake by Raymond Chandler 1st edition 1943
Scarce 1st edition of Raymond Chandler's The Lady in the Lake, only 6000 copies produced. Published under wartime paper restrictions, makes this book one of the more difficult murder mysteries to locate. Fourth in a series of Chandler mysteries is a must have for the serious murder mystery collector. One of the crown jewels needed to fill out any mystery collection. The front dust jacket panel presents the chilling art deco image rendered by Norman Reeves. Some small tears occur on the dust jacket along the base and hinge folds and perfectly consistent with poor quality wartime printing paper of the time. Inside the reverse side of the dust cover are notations in pencil. The book's light green covers and spine still retain their original color and deep green lettering. There are signs of wear along the bottom of the covers, but not much. The overall appearance looks pretty good.
